About CRISP-DM

The CRISP-DM project developed an industry- and tool-neutral data mining process model. Starting from the embryonic knowledge discovery processes used in early data mining projects and responding directly to user requirements, this project defined and validated a data mining process that is applicable in diverse industry sectors. This methodology makes large data mining projects faster, cheaper, more reliable and more manageable. Even small scale data mining investigations benefit from using CRISP-DM.

CRISP-DM TO BE UPDATED!

Today, CRISP-DM is the industry standard methodology for data mining and predictive analytics. As the role of data mining and predictive analytics continues to evolve, however, so must the CRISP-DM methodology.

You can help guide this evolution by participating in the CRISP-DM Update. Members of the original consortium will be actively involved, but the initiative needs your involvement, too! Only with a broad-based effort will the updating of CRISP-DM techniques and processes meet the needs of all organizations involved in data mining today.

As a participant, you’ll be among the first to benefit from refinements in the methodology. For example, you will:

  • Have early access to ways to make data mining results more accessible and usable in your organization
  • Ensure that the CRISP-DM process model addresses issues your organization has encountered when conducting data mining
  • Enjoy the challenge of shaping what is becoming an increasingly important methodology for organizations in business, government, education, and scientific research

You can participate by joining the CRISP-DM 2.0 Special Interest Group (SIG). Signing up for the SIG does not commit you to any cost or specific activity, but being a member gives you the opportunity to participate in the CRISP-DM Update at a level that matches your expertise and commitment to data mining.

NEW! CRISP-DM 2.0 SIG WORKSHOP ANNOUNCED–LONDON, JANUARY 18, 2007. This workshop is free and open to all SIG members. Sign up here.

Even if you choose not to participate in the CRISP-DM 2.0 SIG, your input about the use of the process model is important. Please sign up for the CRISP-DM list serv. You can also share your experiences with CRISP-DM with others interested in the data mining process.
