In response to evolving business needs, the CRISP-DM methodology is to be updated. Learn more about this, or sign up to participate in the CRISP-DM Update, here. Members of the original consortium will be actively involved, but the initiative needs your involvement, too! Only with a broad-based effort will the updating of CRISP-DM techniques and processes meet the needs of all organizations involved in data mining today.
The following is a list of CRISP-DM use by practitioners,
educators and data mining industry players. The list is not comprehensive.
If you have other CRISP-DM use you would like to contribute, or
you suggested additions to this list, please let
us know.
Mention of CRISP-DM in publications and conferences:
An abstract from OgilvyOne Worldwide on using CRISP-DM
CRISP-DM garnered 51% of the vote as KDnuggets data miners chose the methodology they use
for data mining. See: http://www.kdnuggets.com/polls/methodology.htm
Journal of Data Warehousing article: "The
CRISP-DM Model: The New Blueprint for Data Mining" by Colin
Shearer, Fall 2000.
KDD2002 tutorial on a generic data mining effort
to be presented by Monte Hancock.
Also see the book "Data Mining Explained"
by Monte Hancock and Rhonda Delmater, (Digital Press, 2001).
Mention of CRISP-DM As a generic outline for
a data mining project in a tutorial on Privacy, Security, and Data
Mining to be given at ECML/PKDD 2002: http://ecmlpkdd.cs.helsinki.fi/clifton.html
by Chistopher Clifton, Purdue University.
CRISP-DM and the data mining process in general
are discussed in Two Crows Corporation's "Introduction
to Data Mining and Knowledge Discovery, Third Edition"
1999. Information on obtaining the booklet is available on the Two
Crows web site.
CRISP-DM consortium member DaimlerChysler participated
in the KDD-2000 KDD Process Standards Panel. Information on this
page
includes a panel chair presentation, panel chair position statement
and a CRISP-DM position statement (same as the overiew page on this
web site). The Conference prodeedings are available for purchase
on this KDD-2000 site.
The Rudjer Boskovic Institute hosts a page called
the "Data Mining Server" or DMS. Portions of this content
are taken from CRISP-DM. See especially: http://dms.irb.hr/tutorial/dm_proces.php.
Article
on CRISP-DM by Gregory Piatetsky-Shapiro, KDnuggets
editor, written in 1999. Although an older article, it provides
an interesting perspective on the SIG
contribution to CRISP.
Vivek,
a quarterly publication on artificial intelligence has published
a description of CRISP-DM.
Rasch Measurement Transaction (RMT) is a quarterly
publication of the Rasch Measurement SIG of the American Educational
Research Organization, a "confluence of those on the quest
for sound quantitative understanding of qualitative data."
The Fall 2001 issue contains an article
on CRISP-DM.
Introductory presentation on Data
Mining and CRISP-DM by Laura Squier, SPSS.
"Mining
Medical Data for Predictive and Sequential patterns"--a
presentationat PKDD 2001 by Susan Jensen, SPSS UK Ltd, follows the
CRISP-DM methodology.
Mention of CRISP-DM in DMReview article "Data
Mining Strategies" by Jack Noonan, CEO of SPSS.

Standards for Data Mining" (requires login), Computer Standards
and Interfaces 23 (3), Elsevier Science, Amsterdam, July 2001.
Also see the book "Data Mining Explained"
by Monte Hancock and Rhonda Delmater, (Digital Press, 2001), for
a brief discussion of data mining process standards, including CRISP-DM.
In Japanese only: A book with a title something
like "Data Mining that predicts individual customers' behavior",
published by The Nikkan Kogyo Shimbun in 2001, has significant portions
of CRISP-DM translated. The following is the Amazon.co.jp page for
this book http://www.amazon.co.jp/exec/obidos/ASIN/4526047368/250-7333872-9093022
See also the "Handbook of Data Mining and
Knowledge Discovery", which is planned to be published. Chapter
1 is basically an overview of the CRISP-DM model. See http://www.oup-usa.org/toc/tc_0195118316.html.
